Betta fish breeders have inserted a jumping gene also called transposons into the gene of a normal betta fish to create the marble betta fish variety. Marble is used to describe a type of betta fish by its physical blotchy appearance but more importantly by the special genes they have called jumping genes or transposons as they are now called.
Marble coloration this color change is caused by a jumping gene which can make the betta fish change color multiple times in his lifetime and may even change his colors completely. Marble bettas are just as healthy as fish without the jumping gene but may experience a variety of color changes throughout their lives. Spawns of either dark or light bodied solid color betta fish from marble stock will produce three different offspring colorations.
